Lately I feel like I'm not as funny as I used to be. I don't know why, exactly. Usually the winter time is when I'm at my funniest. This is a good time to be funny. There are a lot of reasons to laugh.
I've been thinking a lot about what is and is not funny. When we're children, the very first thing we smile/laugh about is gas (so they say). This happens somewhere in the first weeks of life. It's no wonder we all have to chuckle a little at the right fart joke.
I'm interested in knowing, what do you think is funny or not funny?

About Me
- Tobin F. Terry
- GREG M: The stuff you write, Tob, it's like...potato chips. You know for sure it's not good for you. ME: and you just can't stop? GREG M: No, I've never had that problem.

At this point in my life, cynical stuff strikes me as really funny. Not cynical like old people complaining about youngsters going around with green hair and bones through their noses. It's been a long time since I've been able to belly laugh; usually those catch me by surprise. I think I laughed at Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder.
I know your fondness for Twain, and I recently read a short story called "Cannibalism in the Cars" that struck me as funny in a cynical way. It's about a train wreck that happens in winter, and the passengers are trapped. They ultimately resort to cannibalism, but they carry it out Democratically by voting on whom they should eat first. The juxtaposition is, of course, the joke, and I think it's probably brain funny as opposed to funny bone funny, if that makes sense.
I heard this line in a short story (I think it was Stephen King) and it made me laugh out loud: "She could talk the cock off a brass monkey." Uncle Stevie still has that kind of power over me sometimes.
snow is not very funny.
when toilet paper gets stuck to the back of someone's pants and they walk in the room and you know but they don't, that is funny.
Haha! You are both very, very funny!
I think your pretty funny Toby. But what I find fun is when people point out what is off in the world. I laugh at things that may not be funny like a man sitting in a boat with a dog, thinking about where he will get his next cup of coffee on his trip. Or someone saying what they really think about something and it being wrong for them to say it. Like "Those shoes make you look fat." But don't get me wrong I really like fart jokes. SO the long and short of it is, I don't know what is funny, but thinking about what is funny is not really that funny.
a pig that drinks beer is funny, now that's funny
